Kiev, Ukraine Phone: +38-044-286-27-07 email: info@zamok.com.ua Street Address: ulitsa Naberezhno-Pecherckaya, 5 Rates: $70 to $200 Location Rating: In the summer its probably great. It's on the river. Proximity To Metro: I'm not sure... might be a 20 minute walk? Lobby Appearance: Way different! You go down a flight of stairs and it feels like you are descending into a medieval dungeon! So you just don't know what to expect. Sort of like entering a haunted house on Halloween. * If you are a animal lover, this is not your place.
Medieval theme. Room Appearance: They have 6 rooms and they are all different. Room #2 is a standard room with a nice bathroom and a queen-sized bed. And it is just $70! A similar room with a balcony is $80. Room #6 is $120 and you can probably fish from its balcony, since a fish pool is directly below. Yes, that's right! A pool full of beautiful live fish for eating! Useful Nearby Businesses: They say they will help you hire a boat for a river excursion. Hotel Restaurants: Eating is the main component of this operation. They've got big, really interesting fish that you can fish out of the big tank yourself. Or they will do it for you. I saw big paddle-nosed fish that I had never seen before. They pride themselves on having the freshest possible fish. They have different dining areas. One of them has a seaside theme with fishnets dominating the decor. Another is a 200 seat banquet area. The main dining hall has skinned foxes and other creatures hanging from the walls. Beautiful fur. Other Amenities: At a price of $60 for 2 hours you can have the sauna to yourself. It's got a little pool that looks like a giant barrel with a relaxation area in the same room. There is the sauna. And a bedroom. It also has a stereo and a 13 inch TV. Massage, tanning and fitness are coming soon (Spring 2006). A type of house boat is docked there and being re-constructed. A new private dining hall is being made. It can also be used as a "chill-out" room. Would I Stay Here? Yes, in the $70 room. Because it is good enough. Staff Speaks English? Limited English. Comments: I thought it was an adventure to tour the facility, and the hallway where the rooms are made me laugh because it is so unusual. It's dark with simulated torches, dark-stoned walls and medieval-looking doors to the guest rooms. The hotel was updated 2 years ago. When I visited, it was chilly. It probably is much more pleasant in summer since this is on the river. One hundred feet in the opposite direction is a harbor with small boats parked everywhere. Breakfast is $4. The building resembles a castle with canons. We, my guide, driver and I, were all highly entertained at discovering this unusual place. If you come here by car, it's going to be tricky.
