Tavricheskaya Hotel J (no website) St. Petersburg, Russia Phone: 7 (812) 326-6851
e-mail: no e-mail Street Address: 55 Shpalernaya street Rates: Single $52, double $74, block (2 rooms) $86, semi-suite $86, suite $139. (The hotel has 68 rooms.) Location Rating: Good. Right across the street from Smolny Convent, just a few minutes away from Taurida (Tavrichesky) and Smolny Palaces. Proximity To Metro: Poor. More than a 30 minute walk to Chernyshevskaya metro station. You can use busses 46, 136 or trolleybuses 15, 16 to get to this metro station. Lobby Appearance: Nothing special. Sort of empty and very spacious. I noticed something was spilled on the carpet and they couldn’t get rid of the dirt. Room Appearance: Everything is new, including new bathrooms, but they kept the very old parquet floors from Soviet times. In suites and semi-suites there are carpets that cover most of the floor. Besides TVs and telephones that you’ll find in every standard room, suites feature air-conditioning, hair-dryers and electric tea-pots. Smoking is allowed. Useful Nearby Businesses: Absolutely none. This location is isolated from all stores and cafes. Hotel Restaurants: There is a café on the first floor and a bar on the third floor but they close early - at 11 pm. Other Amenities: Internet access coming soon. Visa registration for 20 roubles. Would I Stay Here? Yes, but I’d prefer one of the suites only. Staff Speaks English? Yes. Comments: Taking into consideration that 2 years ago they didn’t accept tourists, this is a great change and I can see they did a lot for the renovation.
