Tatiana Hotel     L h   St. Petersburg, Russia

On the phone they said they accepted foreign tourists. But when I saw the place myself, I realized they can’t possibly do that. I have never EVER seen a place worse than that! It's a dump! I can’t even describe it correctly so that you could get the proper feeling of the place. Man, it’s AWFUL! Plaster is falling from the walls and ceiling… it's bad. A traveller's nightmare. (There is a Tatiana Hotel in Moscow which is very nice.)

Editor's note: I asked the reviewer (Lena) for more details:

Oh, this place…

Well, I wrote they had plaster falling from the ceiling. Then there was very old furniture blocking the way in the corridor. The sofas in the so-called recreation area had big holes and rips and scratches on the leather covering them. I was really shocked by the wires hanging here and there from the ceiling and from the walls. If I hadn’t known this was a hotel I would’ve thought it was somebody’s very crappy apartment in the course of long due renovation that still actually hadn’t started yet.

Rooms look a little better, at lest nothing menacing hanging from the walls. Bathrooms are almost bearable (at least they look like something had been done to them though a few years ago…), but toilets…oh, my…it’s much-much worse that the facilities in the former Sportivnaya Hotel. The furniture in the rooms is soviet style somewhere from the 80s with narrow beds and plain design but (!) modern TVs!

I was not allowed to take pictures as the hotel is located in the building belonging to the Governmental Factory of Steel and Melting (probably it’s a strategic things for Russians?). But you know, it’s hard to miss it once you’re driving along the street because it’s so long and UGLY! Yuck!
