Taanilinna Hotel - Tallinn, Estonia

Location Rating: Excellent. Right near the walls of the Old Town, a historical center of Tallinn. It was rather hard to find the hotel though, because it is located on a quiet street in a small but cozy courtyard.

Lobby Appearance: Lobby interior is very clean and modern, but not spacious and looks rather simple for a four-star hotel. Like in many of Tallinn’s other hotels located in historical buildings, you can see here patches of original stone walls exposed.

Room Appearance: Good. This small 4-star hotel was opened two years ago (2002), so everything looks brand new there. I was impressed with its mahogany furniture in a classical style. I really liked the spacious Double de Luxe room with elegant lamps, stained-glass windows and a shining bathroom, while the standard double room I was shown was much simpler and definitely small. They also have rooms with a skylight. All 20 rooms face either a courtyard or nearby streets. They all have 14” TV-sets, telephones, internet connection, a mini-bar and other facilities. Also there are rooms for non-smokers (3), handicapped (1) and allergic people (3).

Hotel Restaurant: They have a cozy restaurant and a nice wine cellar with more than 200 different wines! Like the entire hotel, they are decorated to create the atmosphere of the 19th century: whitewashed walls with lots of small framed pictures and photos, white linen chair-covers, cast chandeliers on a wooden ceiling – I liked the place!

Other Amenities: A small Finnish sauna, a meeting area for up to 12 people. A parking lot (just for 4 cars). A great summer terrace is also available.

Rates: Standard Single 96/125 (low/high season), Standard Twin/Double 115/138, Economy Twin 81/95, Deluxe Double 154/179, Extra Bed 24/26. Rates include generous (as they promise) buffet breakfast. No charge for children under 7 sharing parents’ room.

Useful Nearby Businesses: All nearby attractions are within walking distance, including Town Hall Square. If you walk along Uus Street and turn to Viru Street, you’ll find a McDonald's, a Hesburger (local fast-food chain), a shopping center and many other stores. Mr. Robinson nightclub is just around the corner.

Would I Stay Here? Yes, of course.

Staff Speaks English: Yes

Comments: Since this small hotel has a great location and there are just 20 rooms available, I guess it would be rather hard to book a room there in peak season.
