Sokos Viru Hotel J www.viru.ee Address: Viru väljak 4, 10111 Tallinn, Estonia Phone: + (372) 680-9300 Fax: + (372) 680-9236 Email: viru.reservation@sok.fi
Location Rating: Excellent. The 22 storey building is located just opposite the Viru Gate, the central entrance to the Old Town. The hotel belongs to the Sokos Hotels, the largest Finnish hotel chain. Lobby Appearance: I liked it. It is huge, yet very cozy and comfortable. There is a playground in the corner. Room Appearance: Good. There are 516 rooms (Business and Viru Class) in the hotel, including rooms for non-smokers, allergic and handicapped people. All the rooms have telephone, cable and Pay-TV, minibar, bath or shower, hairdryer, trouser press and iron on board, and Internet connection (Business Class). I wasn’t impressed much with the interior of standard double rooms; they are clean, well-maintained but rather plain. The Double de Luxe room had a sauna(!), was more spacious, but … not stylish. Nothing special in the interior. Except the breathtaking view of the city from 2 large windows. Also I liked a TV-set on a rotating table-top, so that you could watch it from every corner of the room. Bathrooms are all equipped with Finnish quality but the shower cabins look a bit small to fit all sizes people. Hotel Restaurant: There are two restaurants and two bars in the hotel. Other Amenities: They have 3 saunas with Jacuzzis, a conference center and the night club "Amigo." Rates: Viru Class: Single € 112, Double € 132, Extra bed € 27, Pet € 27. Business Class: Single (Double for single use) €130, Double € 150, Double Family € 160, Double de Luxe € 200, Double de Luxe with sauna € 230, Suite € 280. Rates include breakfast and entrance to the night club Amigo. Useful Nearby Businesses: Lots of small cafes, restaurants and craft stores in the Old Town. If you want to do more shopping, you can get to the Viru Keskus shopping center (open 10-21) right from the lobby of the hotel! Would I Stay Here? Yes, of course. Staff Speaks English? Sure. Comments: I was told that 80% of tourists staying in this hotel were from Finland. I was not surprised because it takes them just one hour and a half to get by boat to Tallinn from Helsinki!
