Rotermanni Viking Hotel K www.vikinghotel.ee Address: Mere 6a, 10111 Tallinn, Estonia Phone: +(372) 660-1934 Fax: + (372) 661-6200 Email: bookings@vikinghotel.ee
Location Rating: Very Good. It is located between the Old Town (a 10 minute walk) and the city center, right in front of Metropol and Rotermanni hotels. The hotel consists of two small buildings connected by means of a passage. Lobby Appearance: Small and clean; nothing special. Room Appearance: Mixed feelings. It was the only place where I was not escorted by the hotel staff so I had a good chance to inspect the rooms on my own. The first room I saw was #201. I can’t say I was impressed: bed covers with a flowery pattern and a la IKEA style furniture may look lively but the room definitely needs more care. I noticed a hole in the ceiling, stains on the table top, a lock in the bathroom didn’t work. In the second room there was a scorch on the carpet. The arrangement of furniture looked puzzling to me. In one room there was a coffee table but not a single armchair, while in the other room a comfortable sofa was squeezed into a small niche and practically barricaded by a fridge and a camp bed. Here you won’t find rooms with a view. Most of them face either the walls of nearby buildings or (what is worse!) the ruins of the abandoned factory. I’m sure there were better-maintained rooms in the hotel but they were booked at the moment. All the rooms in this mini-hotel have clean bathrooms with showers, SAT TV and telephone. There are videos and refrigerators in some of the rooms. Hotel Restaurant: There’s a bar for up to 40 persons. Other Amenities: They have a Finnish sauna, a laundry and a beauty parlor. They can also arrange transfers and sightseeing tours. Rates: (low/high season) Single €46/51, Double € 60/64, Junior Suite €70/74, Extra bed €20. Important! In low season they offer Double room for €30 (from Sunday till Thursday!). It’s cheaper than a hostel! Useful Nearby Businesses: Just see my reviews of Metropol and Rotermanni hotels. Would I Stay Here? Why not? It’s not a bad choice for budget tourists. I like the rates and location. Staff Speaks English? I think so. Comments: The territory around the hotel is still under restoration. I hope the rooms will have a better view soon.
