Metropol Hotel - Tallinn, Estonia

Location Rating: Very Good. It is located between the Old Town (a 10-minute walk) and the city center. The hotel was opened in 1999 and it occupies one of the buildings of a former factory, which was in operation early last century. You can still see a tall red brick chimney nearby. That’s a good use of old premises, but it makes the facade look quite unimpressive.

Lobby Appearance: Interesting. I liked the fountain with a Christmas tree on the top. The lobby looks spacious and clean with some rooms facing the atrium.

Room Appearance: Neat. The hotel is rather big (144 rooms). They offer special rooms for families (accommodate up to 5 persons), non-smokers (fifth floor), allergic (2), and handicapped (2) people. All the rooms have SAT and PAY TV, telephone, a mini-bar, and a hair drier. Seventeen of the rooms have a sauna. The rooms’ design is plain and differs only in color – beige, rose, blue and green. Of course, suites are more comfortable, furnished better and have a great view from the windows, since they all are on the upper floors.

Actually, I spent a couple of nights in the Metropol Hotel when I was in Tallinn. Everything was okay in my "Double Standard" room, except the air conditioning/heating system. It was too loud, especially at night, and it took me a lot of time to fall asleep. I hate noises at night! What I liked about the bathroom in my room is that it had regulated floor heating. However, I’d prefer the sink was not made of plastic (A yellow spot made by someone’s cigarette ruined its impeccable whiteness!)

Other Amenities: They provide all kinds of entertainment venues: a restaurant, a casino and a nightclub on the 8th floor. You can stay awake all night long.

Rates: Double/twin € 83-96, Double/twin with sauna € 102-115, Junior Suite with sauna € 141, Suite with sauna and Jacuzzi €179, Extra Bed € 22, Pet € 22. Rates include buffet breakfast (very satisfying!) and a morning sauna.

Useful Nearby Businesses: This part of the city (near the harbor) is still under restoration. However, you can easily find a lot of places to eat and have fun in the neighborhood. Just turn the corner and you’ll see an authentic British pub “Scotland Yard” with a great interior, plus there is a pizza shop, a coffee shop, a casino and a three-storied entertainment center (with bowling alleys and billiards). And all the venues are under a single roof!

Would I Stay Here? I did!

Comments: If you decide to stay in this hotel, try to book the room on the upper floors to have a great panoramic view of the Old Town and harbor. If you stay on the lower floors, just go up to the Panorama nightclub in the evening and enjoy the views free of charge!
