Location Rating: Good. Within the Panmen historical site, a short walk from Gusu Garden, about an hour from Shanghai by train or car. City is located on the Grand Canal and boasts of over 100 classical gardens, the Suzhou Silk Museum and Museum of Suzhou Embroidery.

Lobby Appearance: Located within a Pagoda like tower, the lobby is furnished with comfortable seating areas and surrounded by windows overlooking the city. A balcony off the lobby area allows guests to relax while looking at the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Room Appearance: The hotel has 400 rooms and suites located in several buildings connected by walkways. Rooms are clean and well furnished with refrigerator, coffee/tea maker, iron & board, hair dryer, large TV in console, large closet, desk and sitting area. Bathrooms are immaculate and luxurious.

Nearby Businesses: The area where we walked included many small shops of both clothing and household goods. This is an old area but seemed safe for walking.

Hotel Restaurants: Three restaurants featuring an all day dining restaurant, a traditional Cantonese restaurant and a restaurant/bar plus a small bakery are available. As a tour member we ate only breakfast at the hotel but it was a marvelous buffet of both Chinese and American entrees.

Other amenities include a Health & Fitness Centre with gym, tennis court, massage, sauna, steam rooms and a plunge pool plus a Roman style indoor pool and an outdoor free form pool. There are several gift shops and a bakery plus a Conference Room and Ballroom are also available.

Staff spoke English very well.

Comments: We would definitely enjoy staying here again. I would enjoy staying a week just at the hotel as the grounds were so beautiful and spacious.

The outdoor landscaping is wonderful - like strolling through a garden. We did find it confusing at first to find your room with the separate buildings, many walkways and elevators but a map was furnished and once you located your room it was not a real problem. We considered this hotel to be above and beyond the standards for a 5 Star facility. Prices are appropriate for the type of hotel; we were with a tour and our room rate was included in our package price.
