Sovtours Hotel L (no website) St. Petersburg, Russia Phone: 7 (812) 234-1014
e-mail: no e-mail Street Address: 1st Beryozovaya Alleya, 6. (Kammenny Ostrov/Island) Rates: Single $45, double $55, semi-suite $68, suite $80. Location Rating: Fair. Quite far from any sights, but in a very quiet and clean area. Only the wealthiest people can have their houses on Kammenny Island. Proximity To Metro: Fair. It's a 15 or 20 minute walk to Chernaya Rechka metro station. Lobby Appearance: Small but welcoming, with a black reception table (not desk) to the left. Room Appearance: Very clean, but so plain that it made my heart ache. Old furniture, old doors, old but clean and almost nice bathrooms. If you are a fan of soviet style - you’ll like it here. Rooms feature no air-conditioning, but have TVs, telephones and heaters. Some have fridges. Useful Nearby Businesses: None. Hotel Restaurants: There’s a small soviet style café on the first floor to the left where guests have breakfast. (It’s an extra 100 roubles.) Other Amenities: Russian banya (sauna) 100 roubles/1 hour, tours, transfers. Would I Stay Here? Yes, but only after the renovation. Staff Speaks English? I don’t think so. Comments: I spoke to the lady at the reception desk and she said this hotel belongs to her son. They have recently rented the place and the process is not yet settled. That’s why they can’t start renovation work at the moment. They can be sent away from the place anytime and they are afraid of losing the money they’ll spend on making the hotel nice. When they are sure the hotel is theirs, they will start the big process of fixing it up.
