Street Address: 15 Bin Jiang Road, Guilin, Guangxi, P. R. China 541001

Location Rating: Excellent. Located on the Li River in the downtown area. Riverwalk is like a park and is well lighted. Many people walking, enjoying the park by exercising, ballroom dancing, etc. (This is something we saw many times in China...parks everywhere full of people dancing, etc.)

Lobby Appearance: The lobby itself is divided into several areas: the service desk faces the glass elevator area; on the other side of the elevators is a large open area leading to a raised open terrace with a restaurant. Around the lobby area on each floor are balconies allowing guests to see down into the lobby as they walk to their room. Greenery in window boxes decorate all the railings on the balconies and soften the walls.

Room Appearance: I do not have a picture of this room but it is almost identical to the one at the J. C. Mandarin Hotel in Shanghai where we also stayed. The room is well furnished with mahogany furniture including a large console with TV and refrigerator, coffee maker, hairdryer, in-room safe, seating area and very comfortable beds. (over 400 rooms)

Useful Nearby Businesses: As in most of the cities we visited in China, there are lots of little shops along most of the streets near the hotel. (Mom and Pop type shops - small grocery stores, drug stores, fabric, clothing, etc.).

There are two hotel restaurants. The one where we ate served excellent breakfasts with chefs to cook your eggs (or steak and eggs, etc.) just the way you wanted. One of our evening meals was served in this restaurant and was a delightful surprise - we were served steaks, baked potatoes and a salad with apple pie for dessert if I remember correctly!! Unfortunately, the steak knives were more like butter knives and all the steaks were cooked the same - pretty well done. (If I was serving Chinese food I might not do it just right either!)

Other Amenities: Currency exchange, a bar and a pool are also part of this hotel but I'm not sure of anything else.

The staff spoke English quite well and were very congenial.

Would I stay here again? Yes.

Comments: One thing that we found confusing. Since we were with a group, the checking in process was handled by our tour guide and our keys were given to us. Ours was something like 2262...we proceeded to the elevators and discovered that they only went to the fourth floor! When we returned, the desk clerk explained that the first number designated which building, as the hotel consists of two adjoining buildings, the second number is for which floor and the last two numbers were for our room number!! Great once you understand the combination but just a bit confusing!
