Saint Petersburg University Hotel
K
Location is fair, although they do have good apartments.
Rates: $40, $60, 80, and $100 for their best suites. Street Address: 3 Kapitanskaya Location Rating: Fair. It is in the same big
neighborhood as the Pribaltiyskaya Hotel. The hotel is buried in a huge
apartment building next to an apartment building construction site, within a 3
minute walk to the Gulf. Nothing but huge apartment buildings around. You'll
find many of these buildings to be ugly. Proximity To Metro: Fair. It's at least a 15 minute walk to Primorskaya Metro Station, but you can easily get a mini-bus to take you there in a fraction of the time. Lobby Appearance: Small, plain. I was surprised to see an armed guard. It's not a dangerous neighborhood in my opinion. Room Appearance: The corridors on each floor have different colors. Overall they are plain, sterile halls. Behind the doors are some nice apartments. They have 110 apartments with kitchens, little toilet rooms and shower rooms. The best ones are nice and spacious. As the rooms become lower in price, so does the quality. Every apartment is clean, but the less expensive apartments have old furniture. Useful Nearby Businesses: A shopping complex is across the street. A good supermarket is down the road towards the Pribaltiyskaya Hotel (orange building on the left). The 24 hour cafe across from that supermarket at the base of the neighborhood's tallest building (18 stories) is good. Plenty of other stores for all kinds of things are in the vicinity of the metro stop. Hotel Restaurants: They have a 10 table cafe. I had shashleek and it was good. But the apple juice looked a little scary to me and I didn't drink it all. The french fries were on the greasy side too. Lunch for two came to 149 rubles (about $5). Other Amenities: They have a service which washes and irons your shirts. Would I Stay Here? Yes. I don't like the corridors, but the nice apartments are comfortable. I'm also very familiar with the neighborhood. Staff Speaks English? "Some people speak English." Comments: I noticed a smell on the 8th floor, but all the other floors we checked were okay. The average visitor would probably find this neighborhood to be a little scary, but I am told it is one of the city's more affluent sections. I spent over 4 months living in this neighborhood and never had any problems. Well, somebody gave me a dirty look once, but that was it. It's a family neighborhood.
