The most impressive thing about the Pushka Inn is its location. The surroundings are beautiful, old, pastel colored buildings, a canal lined with impressive iron and granite fencing, and Palace Square! With Saint Isaac's Cathedral in view from the front door. This location is super. And it is also on a quiet street - that's a bonus.

The building which the hotel is located in has a story behind it and the staff says it is historic. Pushkin's friend Ivan Puschin lived there.

Fourteen rooms are available. I saw 2 different rooms during my visit. Everything is like new (the hotel opened in Summer 2002). The first room I saw was nice. I liked the view of the buildings outside. The bathroom was new, comfortable and nice. The bedroom was large with an air conditioning unit. The only thing I didn't like was the lighting in this bedroom.

Next I saw a larger suite with a separate kitchen, sloped ceilings and skylights. This was quite nice.

Rooms have ADSL internet connections. Or you can go to a nearby internet cafe.

The hotel has a small, but comfortable cafe/bar to relax in. Up the road a minute or so at 12 Moika is an entryway to a nice courtyard with a statue of Pushkin and you can tour his apartment there. Plus, there is a really, really inexpensive cafe there: "Kafe Oo-bee-rona." It's new. The most expensive thing (pork chops) is 70 rubles. Salads and soups go for 25 to 40 rubles.

If you walk the other direction - towards Palace Square, and bear left, you will find a small, very elegant restaurant called "Psvchesky Most" (translates to "Singers Bridge"). It is an interesting hideaway and the entryway can be found in the courtyard at 20 Moika.

And the new Hermitage restaurant (impressive) is nearby.

High season prices currently (as of January 2004) range from 100 to 270 euros per night. A continental breakfast is included.

This is a good place. As of this writing, all but 3 rooms have air conditioning.

You cannot go wrong with a location like this. Architectural beauty surrounds this location. Big thumbs up!
