Phone: 610-521-9600 Street Address: 76 Industrial Highway, Essington, PA 19029
Rates: From $99, as of December 2004. Location Rating: Fair. It is the farthest airport hotel (located 3 miles south of airport). There is nothing interesting in this area. And rail cars that appear to hold chemicals are parked as close as 500 feet from the hotel. Lobby Appearance: Dated. Tired. Room Appearance: Brand new rooms are nice. Old rooms are okay, but not as nice. It is the same price whether you get a new or old room. A new room here would be much more comfortable. Useful Nearby Businesses: None. Hotel Restaurants: Gabriella's Restaurant, Fliers Lounge. The restaurant has one room for smokers and another for non-smokers. It can accommodate about 95 people. It looks fairly new, but they will be renovating it. A lunch brunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 2:30pm. The restaurant has no windows. The lounge is dark. It didn't strike me as having any kind of special flair to it. Other Amenities: They have a new fitness room with 3 pieces of equipment. The space is small but not cramped. There is no TV in the fitness room. Comments: The hotel was built in 1974. It has 292 rooms. It is currently in the process of undergoing a major renovation, and it needs it. This hotel really has slipped behind their competitors in keeping their facility fresh and modern. As of December 2004, they've got a long way to go. I saw a section of new rooms on the fourth floor that were about to be completed, and those rooms are good. They are nice bright rooms. I liked the green carpet. All rooms have balconies. The new rooms have the standard coffee makers, hair dryers, iron and ironing board. New rooms have a 27 inch TV. Old rooms have a 20 inch TV. The other parts of the hotel... did not impress me. The corridors are dark-ish. And all the common areas are a little too old. There is wifi access in one room near the lobby, but you have to pay for it. The rooms do not have internet access. There is an outdoor pool. Secured, guarded long-term parking is available for $6.95 a day and the lot holds up to 700 cars. Pets are not allowed. About 25% of rooms are for smokers. They have 3 rooms for handicapped travellers. They say they have the biggest shuttle fleet. These are vans instead of mini-buses. Shuttles run every 30 minutes and are on demand at the airport. You can wash your clothes for $1.50 per load. The average hotel price in this area is $1. They say they handle a lot of airline crews and distressed airline passengers. I like the little waterfall they have in the lobby. Music I heard playing in the lobby and other areas featured Madonna and Stevie Nicks. Compared to the other hotels around the airport, this place is sort of ho-hum to me. I don't like the tired look of the building. The most refreshing hotel in the airport area is the Embassy Suites. The Ramada Inn does have one advantage compared to it's local competition, which is the Red Roof Inn, Comfort Inn, Motel 6, and Holiday Inn Airport, and that is - the Ramada is not beside interstate highway 95, so the rooms should be quieter.
