Comments: The phone number to this B & B is actually a reservation service. The owner just prefers to have this service as her "front office."

This is a house with 2 guest rooms. It was originally built as a frame house in 1811. In 1830 it was made into a brick house. The owner bought it as a shell in 1974, fixed it up, and has been offering her rooms to travellers since about 1980.

The best thing about this facility is the location. A $1 per hour meter parking lot is nearby (with a 3 hour time limit). Old, nice little streets are here. Just steps away are some of Philadelphia's most interesting areas, including South Street. An Italian restaurant is right across the street (which the innkeeper recommends). The house is situated on a narrow street near numerous historic areas. You might see horse drawn carriages going by if you stay here.

Inside this house, my favorite room was on the third floor. I liked how it was well lit by the sun during the day, and I found myself enjoying the view out the rear window. It struck me as a comfortable room to stay in. The room had a working fireplace and its own bathroom. I noticed that dust had accumulated on top of the light bulbs above the mirror in the bathroom. It was a lot of dust. I also found some other housekeeping issues in the home, but they were minor things that I think the owner will correct.

Throughout the house are old wood floors. The old stairs have a spiral staircase type of design. It is a little bit of an adventure to climb them. The second floor guest room is fine. I noticed the exterior of the window in the bathroom needed to be cleaned, since the view was affected by dirt.

On the main floor there is a living room where guests can relax and read books or listen to music (old stereo (1970's) with old record collection). The kitchen area is comfortable, and the breakfast table is there. The owner, a senior aged woman, says breakfast is included and it sounds like she makes a nice breakfast. It isn't one of those deals where you just get a glass of orange juice and a muffin.

Beyond the old sliding glass door in the kitchen is a small patio area. Outside on the patio I could hear some of the noise from Interstate 95 (major highway). The owner described the patio as her oasis.

Recent additions to the house are two young cats which have not been de-clawed. (I noticed no cat smell, or any other odors.) In the kitchen, I noticed a heavy layer of dust on top of the refrigerator. The front of the stove also needed to be cleaned. I pointed these things out to the owner. The house does have air conditioning. No smoking is permitted.

Some might consider this to be a noisy location. It is close to, but not in, a very active area. The owner says if you are from the country, this might not be the right place to stay. If you can handle a little bit of city noise, then it will probably be fine for you.

I like this place for its location and value. And the owner is a nice lady. The housekeeping miscues might make it sound bad, but it's not. The rooms looked clean and suitable.
