Marriott Residence Inn Hotel - Philadelphia Center City Phone: 215-557-0005 Street Address: One East Penn Square, Philadelphia, PA 19107 Rates: Starting at $129 to $189 as of December 2004
* Best Views Of City Hall tower * Location Rating: Excellent. It is the very heart of the city. The incredible, unique City Hall is directly across the street. Lobby Appearance: Small, slightly elegant, clean. Calm music plays in the background. Room Appearance: All the rooms look brand new. They are spacious and include kitchens! Kitchen lighting is gloomy florescent. Lighting in the rest of the units/apartments are better. This hotel has 269 suites. Useful Nearby Businesses: Dunkin Donuts and a gift shop are immediately outside. Department store Lord & Taylor is across the street. Borders Bookstore is close. Kinkos and Starbucks is a couple blocks away. Hotel Restaurants: They have a large breakfast room where you can enjoy breakfast with a view of City Hall. On certain days evening meals are also provided. Check the calendar on your refrigerator door. Other Amenities: A free grocery shopping service is offered. You fill out the list in your room and hand it in. They will do that shopping at no additional service charge. Pets are allowed. The cost is $125 additional no matter how long or short your stay. The high cost is mainly to provide for the intensive cleaning efforts required after the pet has left. You can wash and dry your own clothes. Bring quarters. It is one dollar per load. They have a tiny pool and a minimal fitness center with one set of hand weights and a few running and biking machines. Valet parking is available. They have a door man. Would I Stay Here? Yes, and it would be comfortable for me. Comments: Fascinating views of the very impressive, ornate City Hall building. Higher up rooms provide an excellent up-close view of the City Hall tower with its famous statue on top. You can't get a view of City Hall any closer than this. A penthouse is available for rent on the 26th floor. It was originally made just for the owner, but he is no longer local, so it is available for parties and nights. I was told that it is really nice with lots of windows and great views. (It was occupied during my visit.) They have a nice sitting area on the second floor. You will need a key card to use the elevators. They say average stays are 5 days and some people stay much longer. Their focus is the long-term guest. I think it is a good place to call home for a little while. Even the studio rooms have a lot of space. Everything is like new. It's comfortable. Somebody was shot to death in one of the rooms on January 18th, 2005. I think it was not because of a lack of hotel security. See Philadelphia Art OR Go To Next Page
