Photo: Marriott Philadelphia Airport Hotel

Rates: Average room rate is $209 as of January 2005.

Location Rating: Superb. The hotel is in the airport and has direct access to Terminal B. There is no other airport hotel here with a location like this.

Lobby Appearance: Very, very nice. Classy. Elegant. Great elevator lobby too.

Room Appearance: Quite comfortable. Sound proof windows. The airport is right there, but the rooms are perfectly quiet. Even-numbered rooms face the I-95 highway. Odd-numbered rooms face the airport runways. The rooms have an antiquely quality to them. Good lighting. I visited a $450 a night suite (room #1026). The bedroom had a 26 inch TV and the living room had a 32 inch TV. And the suite was completely comfortable. Other rooms I saw were also quite nice. I have no complaints at all.

Useful Nearby Businesses: Well, there are a lot of shops and and places to eat in the airport, but I think you need a plane ticket to wander around in there.

Hotel Restaurants: Oh, they've got a great restaurant environment there at the "Riverbend Bar & Grill." It's really, really nice. The restaurant is open from 6am till 11pm. The lounge part of the restaurant is open until 1am.

Other Amenities: "AYS Phone Service." That stands for "At Your Service." As I understand it, if you need something, you just call and they jump all over it. They've got a really skinny, but long lap pool. The pool might only be 8 or 9 feet wide. A jacuzzi is also there. The pool room felt comfortable to me. It is open from 4:30am till 11pm. The fitness center is open 24 hours and is fairly extensive. It's a good gym and far above the average Philadelphia hotel. Wifi is available in public spaces. For $9.95 per day you can get internet access in your room. That also includes free local and long distance calls. The gift shop has plenty of space for walking around. A Starbucks kiosk is there and you can get all kinds of things there that you might have forgotten, plus "Eagles" shirts and Haagan Dazs ice cream.

If you don't have a laptop, you can access the internet for 25 cents per minute at one internet terminal in the lobby. Parking is not free. There is a "PNC Bank" cash machine in the lobby. Room service available until 1am. Floors 12, 14 and 15 are the Concierge levels. If you are one of these high value guests you can access the Concierge Lounge to just relax and hangout.

Would I Stay Here? Yes. Even though I am a local, if I had an early morning flight, I can see it being a good thing to get a room here for the night before my flight. It would be so easy and much less stressful to just walk from the hotel to the airport, which can be done without stepping outside. And if I were a distressed traveller stuck at Philadelphia International Airport, it would be so nice to be able to escape to a nice room here. It's an excellent hotel.

Comments: The building opened in 1995. There are 419 rooms and just 5 suites. One floor is designated for smokers. There are 22 rooms for the disabled. Rooms were last updated in September 2003. Pets are not permitted. They use "triple sheets." They follow the industry standard of washing blankets and comforters once per quarter. Express checkout is possible where you don't even have to go to the front desk (consult this hotel for details on this service).

This is a very successful hotel. It could be difficult to get a room here on short notice. If you get stuck at the airport and need a hotel room and want the best, don't delay - call them or stop by as soon as you can to have the best chance of securing a room. The next best hotel is the Embassy Suites, but the location is not as convenient (you'll need a shuttle bus to get there).
