Homewood Suites - Philadelphia City Avenue       www.philadelphiacityavenue.homewoodsuites.com

Phone: 215-879-4000Photo: The new Homewood Suites, which opened January 2005. Philadelphia, PA.

Street Address: 4200 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131

Location Rating: In a suburban setting on the edge of the city. Probably more than 5 miles away from Center City. Office buildings, a couple television stations and retail shops are nearby. The Philadelphia College Of Osteopathic Medicine is next door. Saint Joseph's University is down the road a bit.

Lobby Appearance: Wow... really nice. They just opened January 3, 2005. It's a beautiful lobby with comfortable areas to sit by a fireplace. They have a beautiful breakfast area too. I was really impressed.

Room Appearance: The rooms are probably very nice. Since they only had a "soft" opening, things are not quite finished here, and they didn't want me to see incomplete rooms. Oh well.

Useful Nearby Businesses: Chili's restaurant is about a 7 minute walk. The restaurants Denny's, T.G.I. Friday's, Houlihans, and O'hare's Seafood Bar & Grille are about a 12 to 15 minute walk. The popular part of the city known as "Manayunk" is about 10 minutes away by car.

Hotel Restaurants: I don't think there are any here, but immediately next door is a full-service Hilton and they have an interesting, dark bar and a restaurant called "Delmonico's Steakhouse," which seems to be a chain restaurant.

Other Amenities: Free business center. Free high speed internet access. In-room safe. Free "manager's reception" with a light meal and beverages every Monday through Thursday. Free USA Today newspaper. Guest laundry facility.

Would I Stay Here? Yes. I think I would enjoy it here.

Comments: The skyscrapers of Center City are far off in the distance. Free parking will be difficult here. You'll probably have to pay to park. This is an extended stay hotel. Their 131 rooms have kitchens with full-size refrigerators, dishwashers, utensils. Microwave meals are available for purchase in the lobby. (A supermarket - ACME - is about a 15 minute walk west.) The longer you stay, the cheaper the rate. They expect to be ready for a grand opening in February 2005. The Belmont Reservoir is in front of the hotel. It is not like a like a lake. The view is kind of dull. This is the only Homewood Suites which is connected to a full-service Hilton.
