* A Happy Surprise *

Location Rating: Excellent. It is in the vibrant heart of Center City, Philadelphia. City Hall is close. The Kimmel Center is close. Lots of shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Lobby Appearance: An attractive passageway flanked with columns and attractive cherry wood trim leads to a small lobby area which also has a few comfortable areas to sit. Calm music plays in the background.

Room Appearance: Wow! These rooms far exceeded my expectations. They are beautiful, brand new rooms which are very comfortable and spacious. What a surprise...

Useful Nearby Businesses: It is the heart of the city. There is a lot here.

Hotel Restaurants: None. But they do have a nice, comfortable, substantial breakfast room which looks brand new.

Other Amenities: Parking is available next door for $18 per day. Free wireless internet access throughout the building. All rooms have two line phones with dataports, free local calls, hairdryers, iron and ironing boards, in-room voice mail, in-room coffee maker, free cable TV with HBO and CNN, Nintendo games, and free admission to the nearby Bally Total Fitness Center. They also have an outdoor pool on the 7th floor.

Would I Stay Here? Yes, I'd be glad to. These rooms are very comfortable to me.

Comments: The Holiday Inn Express Midtown was originally built in 1964 and has 168 rooms. Guest rooms begin on the 8th floor and the hotel has 20 floors altogether. I was certainly surprised to discover such nice and comfortable rooms here. Compared to the nearby Downtown Marriott, I actually like the rooms at this Holiday Inn better. The room colors are more soothing to me and the furnishings are a little more modern in style, which I prefer. However the Marriott is a full service hotel and this is a limited service hotel.

The Holiday Inn Express has unusual big city views. Here there are rooms where you can see the rear areas of Center City's large, older buildings. It is just a view the average person doesn't get to see.

All the rooms have the sink outside of the bathroom.

I was impressed that everything looked new. I loved the rooms. I would be very comfortable here. I'm still surprised. They have really nice rooms.
