Photo: Holiday Inn City Line - Philadelphia, PA.

Location Rating: Several miles away from Center City between Center City and King Of Prussia. It is like a busy suburb here. At the Route 1 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) interchange.

Lobby Appearance: They have some interesting Philadelphia art here by artist J. Weeks. There are a few places to sit and hang-out. Floors are green marble. The colors and lighting are a little dark with a tinge of gloominess. Looks fairly recent.

Room Appearance: Warm lighting. Up-to-date. Clean. Desk. Comfortable desk chair. 27 inch TV. Rooms look fine. I have no complaints. They say all rooms were updated in the last 18 to 24 months.

Useful Nearby Businesses: The restaurants: Denny's, T.G.I. Friday's, Houlihans, and my favorite - O'hare's Seafood Bar & Grille.

Hotel Restaurants: "The Glass Tree Restaurant." They say it was updated 6 months ago and that the menu has a South Philly - Italian theme. In comparison to the lobby, it is bright with warm colors. They also have "Remy's Lounge" which is connected to the restaurant. I found the atmosphere at O'hare's Seafood Bar & Grille to be much more interesting. There is also a perfectly clean saltwater aquarium at O'hare's. O'hares is to the right as you exit the Holiday Inn lobby and across the street.

Other Amenities: Free parking. Guest laundry facilities. Small indoor/outdoor pool with a maximum depth of 4 feet open from 6am till 11pm. The pool area looks pretty nice and the roof opens up to better enjoy warm weather days by the pool. A whirlpool is also there, but it was surrounded by yellow tape during my visit. The fitness center is cramped. There are two bike machines, 2 walking/running machines, 3 universal weight lifting stations in a small room next to the pool. The hotel also offers "free local calls."

Comments: The hotel has 340 rooms, including 2 junior suites and one presidential suite. Eighty percent of the rooms are non-smoking. They have 11 rooms for handicapped guests. They say it is a family hotel with mostly families as guests. They also have reunion guests and sports teams. They consider their hotel to be a nice place at a fair price. The "We'll tow your car away if you don't belong here" signs make me nervous. It's $150 (cash only) if they just hook up your car. Manayunk is about a 10 minute drive. It is a popular, trendy place with shops and restaurants. King Of Prussia Mall is maybe 15 minutes north if traffic is good. Getting to Center City by car from here could be a nightmare if the traffic flow is heavy. You'll be trapped on the expressway. Listen to 1060am on your radio for a traffic report before you head into the city (every 10 minutes). It is possible to go in a different way.
