Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia            www.fourseasons.com

Phone: 215-963-2746Photo: Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia

Street Address: One Logan Square, Philadelphia, PA 19103

Location Rating: Excellent if you want to be near the Swann Fountain, the Franklin Institute Museum or City Hall.

Lobby Appearance: Elegant. Everything looks new, but the building is 21 years old. There is a prosperous, successful air about this place, and it was abuzz with activity during my visit.

Room Appearance: I saw a regular room. It looked plain to me. And I saw a one room suite (#661). I liked this room much more. Wow.

Useful Nearby Businesses: T.G.I.Fridays, Subway. Suburban Station is about 2 blocks away (regional rail service)

Hotel Restaurants: Fountain Restaurant (very highly acclaimed), Swann Lounge, Courtyard Cafe.

Other Amenities: It is all about service here, and details. You get a lot of personal service. Everyone is nice to you. And to me, it is surprising how far they go in providing service. It appears they go way beyond any other Philadelphia hotel in providing service. One unusual complimentary service is shoe shining. They have age specific amenities for children, which could include a rubber duck in the tub with a special greeting waiting for them, or popcorn for teenagers. They have pet menus. You can have your clothes pressed in an hour and dry cleaning in 4 hours. Housekeeping in the rooms is done twice a day. Rooms have a small safe - too small for a laptop, but the closet locks and safe deposit boxes are available downstairs.

They don't attempt to sell beds and things, but if you want to purchase a Four Seasons bed or shower head or whatever, they will accommodate you.

Would I Stay Here? Yes. In a one room suite with a view of Swann Fountain.

Comments: Their one room suite is huge! And it feels like home. It's like being in a big apartment. The views of Swann Fountain are terrific. Inside the suite, a Bose radio is next to the bed and in the very spacious living room is a Nakamichi stereo. There is a dining room of an appropriate size and also a pantry. Bathrooms feature attractive marble.

Each room has 3 phones; of these 1 is cordless. There is high speed internet access of course, plus Web TV. All kinds of newspapers can be requested.

They say during the week it is a business hotel and on weekends it is a family hotel.

The gift shop is not ordinary. You can find locally inspired jewelry by Lagos, bath products found in the rooms, and exclusive items only available at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia.

They have a very high staff to guest ratio. I wrote down in my notes 3 employees per guest, but I may have gotten that backwards.

The hotel has 364 rooms and 8 floors. The indoor pool area is nice. There is a fountain there which provides a soothing water sound, as long as screaming kids don't ruin it. The deepest the pool goes is 5 feet. They have a whirlpool which can fit 30 people. The locker area is posh.

The Four Seasons has 4 "ADA" rooms for the disabled and 2 have rolling showers. More of these rooms are coming.

One half of the fifth floor is set aside for smokers.

The Swann Lounge is very comfortable to hang-out in. During certain hours they have a jazz trio that plays.

An attractive, fairly secluded outdoor patio with nearby fountains is opened up during the warmer days.

If you wanted to watch the annual US Pro bicycle race or the Fourth Of July Fireworks, this is an excellent hotel to stay at.

Among hotels, they have the most beautiful elevator floors in the city. And the best views of Swann Fountain.

I was surprised how busy the hotel was during my visit, but everything appeared to run there like a well-oiled machine, and the funny thing to me is that all of the staff are so nice. They really go out of their way to be nice and courteous to you. It was a pleasure to be there, and quite comfortable.
