Courtyard by Marriott - Philadelphia Airport

Phone: 215-365-2200

Street Address: 8900 Bartram Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19153

Photo: Courtyard By Marriott - Philadelphia International Airport area

Rates: From $79 to $159, depending upon demand (as of December 2004).

Location Rating: Near airport. Situated in a cluster of 7 hotels in an isolated location. Nothing interesting is here.

Lobby Appearance: Large television monitor behind the front desk shows that you are being electronically watched (unusual). The lobby is small. A dining room is next to it, plus a small bar and a lounge where you can sit by a fireplace. This whole area has a comfortable feels-like-home quality to it.

Room Appearance: I hate the cheap, gloomy florescent lighting in the bathrooms. With the table lamps, I don't like the new white lights they are switching to. It seems like a cold and sterile type of light. I prefer the regular light bulbs. Otherwise, the rooms are fine. Suites have two televisions and two telephones, with one being a speaker phone. King suites also have double doors between the living room and bedroom. The sink and mirror is outside the bathroom. They've got the usual extras like coffee makers, irons and things like that, plus a microwave and refrigerator.

Useful Nearby Businesses: Ruby Tuesday restaurant. The nearby Embassy Suites has a good restaurant. That's it!

Hotel Restaurants: Since there are so few dining options near this location, this hotel offers dinner Monday through Thursday in their dining room (dinner is not free). Breakfast is all-you-can-eat for $8.95 served from 6am Monday through Friday till 10am, and 7am till 10am on weekends.

Other Amenities: They have a small fitness room with 4 machines. They say free weights are coming. There is an indoor pool with a maximum depth of 5 feet. It was just resurfaced (December 2004). A whirlpool is next to the pool. Elevator music plays in the pool area. Washers and dryers are available for guest use. The cost is just 75 cents per load. That is the cheapest rate in a Philadelphia hotel. All rooms have new 27 inch televisions. One free internet terminal is in the lobby. A candy bowl is at the reception desk. Rooms have free high speed internet access. Free USA Today newspaper. Twenty-four hour coffee. Automatic deadbolts on doors. Free shuttle to the airport from 5am till 12:30am.

Would I Stay Here? Yes.

Comments: I really like the lobby area. Rooms with the best views are probably those facing the inner courtyard. Corridors are dull. The building is 13 years old. The last room update was done 5 years ago. The next room update is coming in Spring 2006. The hotel has 152 sleeping rooms. Smoking rooms are available, and they "ozone" these to cleanse them of the smoke odor. Pets are not allowed. They have 3 handicap guest rooms. One has a rolling shower.

I like it here, but hate the bathroom lighting.
