Comfort Inn - Philadelphia Airport

Phone: 610-521-9800 Street Address: 53 Industrial Highway, Essington, PA 19029
Location Rating: Three miles south of the airport. There is a "Denny's" restaurant and a number of other hotels all right next to each other. The nearby Holiday Inn has a good restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere and it also has a bar area with a selection of arcade games, including a pool table. And if you are a bird lover, the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum is near. It's a marsh. But mainly this is a very dull location. Lobby Appearance: Comfortable lobby with a fireplace area, a TV area, and a breakfast area. Room Appearance: I saw rooms 108 and 111. The one thing that caught my attention as being unusual is that they have shower/bath cabins. It's a combination bath tub and shower and it is all one big piece of plastic. And the plastic ceiling is lower than the ceiling would ordinarily be. So if you are 6'4" or so, you might need to duck your head a little bit in there. However if you are especially tall, they do have 10 guest rooms with whirlpools instead of the shower cabin. (I did not see these shower cabins any place else in Philadelphia.) The rooms I saw were all good rooms. One had a noticeable stain on the carpet, but besides that I had no complaints. Common standard features were a 27 inch TV, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, coffee maker, and clock radio. The desk in the room has minimal space. Useful Nearby Businesses: Denny's Restaurant. The nearby Holiday Inn also has a sports bar and restaurant. That's it! The area is industrial. A Boeing plant is nearby. Hotel Restaurants: Free "deluxe continental breakfast." No restaurant service. Other Amenities: There is a fitness room on the second floor across from Room 230. It is open from 6am till 11pm. The windowless room is small with 3 pieces of equipment. It's got a TV. The fitness room looks like a basement with white walls, a lot of mirrors, and pipes. Free wireless is coming in early 2005. Currently you can pay 12 cents per minute in the lobby to surf at an internet vending machine. They say minor improvements are coming, like new showerheads. The free airport shuttle departs every 30 minutes in the morning and it runs from 4:30am till 1am. If you need a morning ride, then you need to sign up for it. After 9am the shuttle comes on demand (when somebody needs it). Would I Stay Here? Yes. Comments: This hotel opened in April 1990. It does not look old to me. Rooms were last updated 12 to 18 months ago. And more renovation work is to take place this year. They do have smoking rooms and they are located on the third floor. There is no pool. Pets are allowed if they weigh under 25 pounds. There is a $10 per day pet fee. I do have concerns about possible highway noise issues with some rooms facing the highway. The quietest rooms would probably be on the ground floor without a highway view. Noise was really an issue at the nearby Red Roof Inn on the second and third floors, however they have a different type of hotel where there are no interior corridors and everything is open to the outside. This Comfort Inn has interior corridors. Overall, the Comfort Inn is not a bad place to stay. And the front desk people were nice and very pleasant.
