Street Address: ulitsa Habepezhno-Kreshatitskaya, prishal #5

Rates: $157 to $335

Location Rating: This is a barge hotel that is docked along the Dnipro River. It is just outside of the city center, yet in an interesting, old part of the city.

Proximity To Metro: 10 minute walk to Poshtova Ploshchad metro station.

Lobby Appearance: Lots of photos of Ukrainian celebrities on the walls who have stayed there.

Room Appearance: I was surprised that these rooms were fancy, some with interesting styling effects, and it appeared that they were all different. The bathrooms are large and have a hair dryer and bathrobe. Some have a jacuzzi. All the rooms have air conditioning. Twenty inch TVs seem to be standard.

Useful Nearby Businesses: A barbeque restaurant is across the street. Also, be sure to check out "Macandra." They have a wine shop in their very big, interesting, wine cellar. And it's a nice restaurant too. It's worth it just to go there and se it.

Hotel Restaurants: They have a small, pleasant bar with tables and views of the water.

Other Amenities: Additional cost internet access is available for $11 an hour.

Would I stay here? Yes.

Staff speaks English? Yes.

Comments: I was surprised that a barge could be turned into such a nice hotel. This facility has 33 rooms. None have been set aside for non-smokers, and I did detect cigarette smoke in room #9. The fish tanks on display in the entryway were dirty during my visit. You can trip and fall if you are not careful at the front door. A doorman will open the door for you. They say this location along the water is quiet and peaceful and especially desirable during summer. It feels a little lonely down there by the water, but within 10 minutes or so by foot are interesting old neighborhoods to walk through.

Reviews for Kiev hotels were done in October and November 2005 by Ed Ryder. Room pricing should not be relied upon as accurate since rates change for various reasons including strong demand and inflation, and where rates have been provided, it is only meant to serve as a guide and all pricing should be verified with the hotel.
