Hotel Mayak, www.hotel-mayak.ru in Omsk, Western Siberia, Russia Street Address: Ulitsa Lermentova Location Rating: Excellent. Just off the main street but in the heart of the city Staff Speaks English? There are a couple that do, but most don’t. Would I Stay Here? Yes. Limited options in Omsk Overall the hotel is pretty nice. First impression from the outside is not good, the place needs a lick of paint on the outside. The lobby is nice with polished floors and a small waiting area. I stayed in room 413 which is a single room, it cost 1920ruble per night. The room was spotlessly clean, with a lot of space and a bed that was slightly bigger than a single but not as big as a double. Nice sparkly new bathroom with a great shower with good pressure. Just what you need after 2 days on the train. The bar/restaurant is quite small but nice, they have a good selection on the menu and also have a menu in English. The staff are friendly enough. They certainly don’t go out of their way to help and need prompting to get service, but that’s just the Russian way I think. The hotel is situated in a small square overlooking the om and irkutsk river. It is about a 5 minute walk from the main streets and close to everything. There is a great little restaurant just up the street the serves really nice sashlicks for 75rubles. On the whole the experience at the Mayak was pretty good, the hotel itself is spotless and the location is good. Staff could use some personality though. The bartender there called Stas knows a little English and with a dictionary you can hold a decent conversation with him. I had some great nights in the bar with other guests. I stayed 8 days at the Mayak. Rating: 6/10
