Oberig Hotel         (no website)           Kiev, Ukraine

email: oberig_@i.com.ua  Oberig Hotel - Kiev, Ukraine

Street Address: 25/16, Chervonozoryany ave.

Rates: $47 to $128, but it could be less if you share your room with a stranger.

Location Rating: Fair. You are in the busy city here, but not close to the heart of the city.

Proximity To Metro: I was told the metro is nowhere nearby, but you can take buses.

Lobby Appearance: Recently updated. I was intrigued with the new tile floor that looks like fancy woodwork from an old palace of royalty. There is some stained glass in the lobby.

Room Appearance: Fairly new-looking rooms. Room #307 is a half luxury suite with air conditioning, a 20 inch TV and a small empty refrigerator. The bed is large. The bathroom sink is one of the smallest I have ever seen. There was a trace of cigarette odor in the room.

Next I saw a standard room. It had a 13 inch TV and a refrigerator. And the room was also fairly new. I saw one more. Overall, not bad, but not the best.

Useful Nearby Businesses: We ate at a McDonald's a little ways down the road. I was also told that an underground shopping mall is there close to that McDonald's.

Hotel Restaurants: Hidden in the basement is a small 6 table cafe with a big flat screen TV on the wall.

Other Amenities: Also in the basement is a room with a small Russian billiards table, a karaoke thing, and connected to this room is a sauna with tiny pool (for cooling off, not doing laps). Plus they have a new, mid-sized conference hall.

Would I Stay Here? Yes. But it wouldn't be my first choice.

Staff Speaks English? Yes, some English.

Comments: Watch your step as you enter the lobby. You could fall on your face if you're not careful.

Reviews for Kiev hotels were done in October and November 2005 by Ed Ryder. Room pricing should not be relied upon as accurate since rates change for various reasons including strong demand and inflation, and where rates have been provided, it is only meant to serve as a guide and all pricing should be verified with the hotel.
