A Few Cheap Renovated Rooms,
But The Location Is Poor

The average affluent traveller won't be joining you here, but they do have some good rooms. There is an Uzbekistani design influence in the lobby with an interesting wall decoration technique. The building was made in 1975 and has about 400 rooms. Originally it was a dormitory. Nobody speaks English here except at the "G & R Hostel" office on one of the upper floors. They rent out the worst of the hotel's rooms.

On the ground floor is a bar with a pool table. There are a couple security guards, plus I saw 2 other guys dressed in police uniforms just hanging out there looking extremely bored.

The hotel does have newly renovated rooms. All but one I thought were pretty good rooms.

Room 1527 goes for 1500 rubles (as of April 3, 2004) and I think it is a good value. This was my favorite room among those I saw.

Room 1511 has two rooms, goes for 3250 rubles and smells like somebody kept hamsters in there.

Room 1525 is a two room suite with twin beds - it's new and looks fine

Room 1506 goes for 2200 rubles and is not as nice as the others.

Renovated rooms are pretty good. But overall the facility is so-so and not that comfortable. It is still an old Russian hotel.
