Street Address: 1225 NanJing Road, Xi Lu, Shanghai 20004, China

Location Rating: Good. On NanJing Road which is one of the premier shopping streets in Shanghai. Taxi and other transportation available nearby.

Lobby Appearance: The lobby is dominated by a lacquer mural that must be at least 40 feet high depicting the travels of one of the Chinese Admirals. The other main feature of the lobby is a glass wall overlooking a terrace with comfortable seating facing NanJing Road. Other areas in the lobby provide many places to sit comfortably.

Room Appearance: Large rooms with mahogany furniture are clean and beds are very comfortable. As with most of the hotels we visited in China the extras that are included are an in-room safe, terry cloth robes, coffee maker, refrigerator, internet access, TV, hairdryer and a seating area near a window area.

Useful Nearby Businesses: NanJing Road is "THE SHOPPING STREET" with a large mall directly across the street from the hotel. We found the side streets were very interesting as there are small shops of all kinds that are mainly for the locals instead of geared towards the tourists. We enjoyed strolling in this area and were pleased with how friendly and helpful the people are.

Hotel Restaurants: Five different restaurants are available although we only ate in one. The morning buffet breakfast was especially nice as chefs are on duty to prepare food to order. We found the dining room to be quite small for the number of people to be served and the tables were tiny. The wait staff did not seem to be very well trained (or was overworked) so that you might have to search out tableware, a napkin, or coffee for yourself. The food was delicious but the service was not what it should have been for a hotel of this quality.

Other Hotel Amenities: An indoor pool, provisions for squash and tennis and a fitness center are all available.

Did the staff speak English? Yes, fairly well, but we found the staff to be less accommodating than the other hotels where we had stayed. Perhaps it's just such a busy hotel that we got more of the "big city" attitude.

Would I stay here again? Yes.
