Hotel Sonata J www.hotel-sonata.com St. Petersburg, Russia Phone: 7 (812) 380-4090 email: hotel-sonata@mail.ru Street Address: ul. Mayakovskovo, 50 Location: Good. Nearest Metro: Chernyshevskaya (7 to 10 minutes away by foot) Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes.
The Sonata Hotel opened December 25th, 2003. It features 7 brand new, perfectly comfortable rooms. The suites and doubles have air conditioning. The main lobby area is also air conditioned. And they have a 3 table cafe/bar. The entryway to the hotel is a communal stairwell. Usually these communal stairwells (where other Russians living in the same building use this same stairwell) are dirty and dark. But Sonata has invested money in their communal stairwell and it is clean and well-lit. Once inside, you go upstairs and press the doorbell to be allowed entry into Sonata. And it is nice inside this mini-hotel.
I saw every room in this facility and the rooms are all comfortable, nice and brand new. The rooms have interesting black & white framed city photos on the walls. Lighting in the rooms is ample. Often mini-hotels seem to skimp on room lighting which can create a sort of dreariness to the rooms. Not so here. I most liked room number 1 for its view of the old neighborhood. Outside on the ground floor is the Red Fox Jazz Club. The hotel staff says the noise does not reach the hotel. And there is also a "producti" store right there (convenience store). This hotel belongs to the "Russian Vodka Museum." The museum is located about a 45 minute walk away from the hotel near Saint Isaac's Cathedral. The Sonata loves to promote their museum and the museum offers vodka sampling and traditional Russian food. I did visit their museum... they will teach you the subtleties of drinking vodka. Over 60 different vodkas to choose from with 3 free shots. The museum is open until 10pm. Hire one of our guides and we'll help you to find it. I liked the Sonata and they are eager to begin getting customers. Current pricing: 70 to 80 for their least expensive, as of January 2004.
