Would I Stay Here? Yes, but I hate the front desk ladies - so I'd stay here as a last resort.

The Sevastopol is a strange place. I went to one building; the front desk ladies sent me to another building and over there I saw a lot of low class people hanging out in the lobby, and it seemed very busy over there. And then I got sent back to the original building again.

Eventually I got to see some rooms, and I was told they only had a few rooms in this hotel. (And it is a big place.) I was only shown renovated rooms and the quality of the rooms, corridors and 16th floor restaurant is pretty good... I was surprised because I expected a lot worse from my initial impression. The hotel was built in 1980 for the Olympic Games and the floors I saw were all recently renovated. The 14th and 15th floors have air conditioning. And each floor has a key lady.

The noisy Russian-made elevators seemed to have problems - such as you get inside, press a button and nothing happens. Hmm... well, eventually one of them decided to work.

My favorite room was room 1504. It had 2 bathrooms with showers, a closet and a desk. Others:

Room 510 - large; slight mustiness, okay place - 2200 rubles

Room 508 - clean, basic, fairly recent - last month had a little renovation work - 1500 rubles

Room 1507 - large sparse bathroom, office, bedroom with large bed, and a sort of empty living room

Room 1506 - a little nicer with one less room; small twin beds, large living room, large sparse bathroom

The 16th floor restaurant is a nice area with good day light through the windows. There is a Russian billiards table and one American pool table with a TV in that area that was showing Russian news. I was comfortable on that 16th floor.

Only a few floors in the building are the actual hotel. Rooms on the 5th floor can be had for 1400 rubles, and rooms with a second room go for 2080 rubles (as of April 1, 2004)

Overall, the hotel is not bad at all. Nice, with recent upgrades. But those unfriendly front desk ladies with the very bad manners actually spoiled the enjoyment of my visit. They suck at dealing with people. The key ladies are much nicer.
