* Among the city's best located hotels *

Rates: From about $96 for a standard single for one person ($108 for two people), to $179 for a "lux" which they also call a "senior suite." Weekend pricing for their rooms is slightly less. Price includes breakfast and VAT tax, which is 20%.

Location Rating: Quite good. Heart of the city. But does not have the great views that the Kozatsky Hotel has.

Proximity To Metro: About a 10 to 12 minute walk.

Lobby Appearance: Recently updated.

Room Appearance: They showed me a room I should not have seen. It had a small, cramped room with a tiny sofa and a bureau-like piece of furniture. I don't know what that room was for or how anybody could enjoy it? Then I saw the bedroom. Except there was no bed. It was a sofa that converts to a bed. And the mattress is quite low to the floor, which to me is odd. Maybe somebody from Japan might like that? I don't know? I know for certain that if a US traveller got this room and did not have prior warning that the bed was a sofa bed, they would be upset. However, the room was new in appearance. It also had air conditioning, a 20 inch TV, and a refrigerator. That was room 310 and they refer to it as a ½ lux. "Lux" room 301 was more interesting to me. I liked the cubby hole that the large bed was in. This room also had a larger than normal TV, maybe a 26 incher? Room 302 was a single standard. It also appeared to be fairly new, but I didn't like how the bed was so low to the floor.

Useful Nearby Businesses: I didn't write down a list, but it is the heart of the city where it is abuzz with activity and commerce.

Hotel Restaurants:

Other Amenities: They've got a small casino area and a striptease bar.

Would I Stay Here? This is a sort of old hotel that has recent updating. The location is quite good. I would not stay in a room with an uncomfortable bed, and I think some of their rooms have uncomfortable beds.

Staff Speaks English? Yes.

Comments: Hotel staff is professionally dressed and has the service attitude. The Kreschatik Hotel has 100 rooms. I liked their elevators and how they were decorated with large old black & white photos of Kiev. Six months ago, ownership of this hotel changed.

Reviews for Kiev hotels were done in October and November 2005 by Ed Ryder. Room pricing should not be relied upon as accurate since rates change for various reasons including strong demand and inflation, and where rates have been provided, it is only meant to serve as a guide and all pricing should be verified with the hotel.
