Hotel Izhora   K P  It doesn't look like the suburbs, but it is. Phone: 7 (812) 464-2576

Rates: Suite 1500 rubles ($50); double for two people 1400 rubles ($46.67); double for one person 1200 rubles ($40); single with no bathroom 600 rubles ($20).

Location Rating: Extremely poor. In the southern suburbs. You pass a lot of junky apartment buildings on the mini-bus ride here. Far from the city center.Photo: Hotel Izhora, St. Petersburg, Russia

Proximity To Metro: Extremely Poor. Take mini-bus 275 from Rybatskoe Metro Station (the end of metro line 3). It takes about 10 minutes or so.

Lobby Appearance: Interesting marble lobby. A little old. Stairwell had a recent paint job.

Room Appearance: Rooms are old, but clean and in good condition. The beds are small. If you are tall you won't fit on the bed unless you sleep on an angle or curl your legs. Some rooms have no bathroom. Each floor has a shower and bathroom facility for these rooms and they looked fine. There are 47 rooms available.

Useful Nearby Businesses: Billiards, small disco. Computer club. Not much else around.

Hotel Restaurants: They have a 5 table cafe that looked nice and a modern, but very tiny bar room.

Other Amenities: Recently renovated banquet hall, lobby shop, solarium, sauna being renovated (March 2002).

Would I Stay Here? The director was very nice to us. I can tell they are really trying to make this a quality place, but I'm sorry I would not stay here. The beds are too small; the rooms are just so so for the price; the metro is nowhere nearby, and it is too far away from the action, plus the surrounding area is depressing to pass through.

Staff Speaks English? No.

Comments: There is a problem with hot water here. The local provider of hot water does not get the job done, so the hotel must heat it themselves. The expense of doing this prevents them from providing 24 hour hot water. So if you want to take a hot shower, you can only do it between 8am to 10am in the morning and 9pm to 11pm in the evening. It is a clean facility. They pointed out as a selling feature that they have no bugs.
