Hotel Dostoevsky J www.vladimirskiy.ru St. Petersburg, Russia Phone: 7 (812) 331-3200 email: reservation@hotel.alice.ru
Street Address: 19 Vladimirsky Prospect Location: Excellent Nearest Metro: Dostoevskaya - right across the street Ploshchad Vosstaniya - about a 10 minute walk Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. What a wonderful surprise this hotel is to me! Wow! I can't believe it was only rated a 3 star facility. No way - it is much better. The Hotel Dostoevsky just opened in December 2003. It is the kind of place where somebody stands ready to open the door for you as you enter or exit the lobby. The lobby is elegant. The staff has a very professional appearance. A cash machine is in the lobby, plus two elevators. My facility tour began with a glance of the brand new, 200 store shopping mall which spans 5 floors (Vladimirsky Passazhe). Wow! I didn't even know it was there! The stores are upscale. There is a 24 hour supermarket there to pick up snacks and you can eat fairly well in the mall. I had a delicious lunch on the top floor of the mall. Wait until you see the bakeries there! You can even drop off your kid in a supervised indoor play area! The mall is great - just like home. Some rooms of the hotel border on the mall atrium and provide very interesting views of the mall. Some rooms surround a "winter garden" courtyard in another section. And some rooms border another, interesting courtyard. And they have rooms with great views of Vladimirsky Cathedral, which is directly across the street! It is a beautiful old church. Those rooms have balconies too. This hotel is *substantial* *impressive* and a good value. There are 207 rooms(!), a business center, fitness center, and hotel restaurant. Its design is very well conceived. I loved this hotel and everything it offered. The rooms had wood floors. I prefer carpet. But everything else I absolutely loved. The rooms are air conditioned. The windows are a type meant to block street noise. They have rooms for handicapped people. You cannot go wrong with the Dostoevsky. The facility is beautiful. The upscale mall, which the hotel is built around, makes the hotel even more attractive. Great views are right across the street. The metro is right there. Nevsky Prospect is a short walk north. This hotel is now one of my top recommendations. Super! How could they have received only 3 stars?
