Hotel Deson-Ladoga   J   www.deson.lek.ru   Phone: 7 (812) 528-5393

Rates: Single $108; double $126; double with 2 beds $146; triple $192; suite $198. VAT included, but add 5% city tax to these prices. Breakfast included.

Location Rating: Fair. It is not an interesting neighborhood at all. Just residential apartment buildings. No interesting architecture here either. A very plain area. Photo: Hotel Deson-Ladoga, Saint Petersburg, Russia

Proximity to Metro. Very good. An 8 to 10 minute walk, at the most. Novocherkasskaya Metro Station. It's fairly simple to get to.

Lobby Appearance: Clean. Small. Fairly modern.

Room Appearance: The rooms are fine. Most of them were updated in 1996 and they look newer. Ten out of 96 have been set aside for non-smokers.

Useful Nearby Businesses: I noticed there was a billiards place a short walk from the hotel. There is not much else around that looks the least bit interesting. The hotel describes (spins) the area as ecologically clean with no nearby industrial establishments. But it is a valid point. Many of the city's hotels have smokestacks nearby.

Hotel Restaurants: They have a restaurant that is acceptable in decor appearance and a nice little "night club" which looks like a comfortable hangout spot.

Other Amenities: Internet access, souvenir shop, currency exchange, sauna (additional $).

Would I Stay Here? Yes.

Staff Speaks English? Yes. Natalia spoke English very well and was very pleasant and accommodating. What a great hotel employee!

Comments: The outside appearance of this hotel, as well as the whole neighborhood, is not attractive to me. The building is 38 years old, but recent improvements have been made which makes it of acceptable quality for western tourists. Inside it is nicer. The staff was very friendly and English speaking. A big positive is the metro station is an easy walk away. It is too bad the neighborhood is so dull.
