Street Address: M. Hrushevkogo 26/1

Rates: From $75 to $295

Location Rating: Across from the Parliament building and very close to Mariinsky Palace. A park is also across the street and within a short walk you can get a panoramic view.

Proximity To Metro:

Lobby Appearance: Modern lobby. Two cash machines. Interesting glass-enclosed dining area in lobby. Several boutiques are here.

Room Appearance: You can get a so-so room that is a mix of old and new, and you can get a new room. The 6th floor blows away other floors I saw. Beautiful corridor. I loved the colors. Room #607, which costs $240, has a good view of the Parliament building, a really, really nice bathroom with heated floor, 2 bathrobes are on the bed. It's got a 19 inch TV, dining room table, desk, sofa, and a safe. All superior rooms have a safe here. The 6th floor was renovated 3 years ago, but it looks new. The elevator lobby on this floor is also nice.

The old rooms might have some new furniture with a 1970's Soviet radio and old wood floors. The first standard room I saw had mold on the bathroom ceiling and paint flaking off that ceiling. It had some new features, but they kept the ancient floor tile, and it doesn't look good. The bed in that room was not suitable for tall people.

Useful Nearby Businesses:

Hotel Restaurants: On the second floor is large elegant restaurant with separate private dining spaces. Plus a large dining hall. Breakfast is served in this dining hall with live music. And breakfast costs about $18.

Other Amenities: Massage is offered on the 8th floor. The sauna and fitness center is currently under construction.

Would I Stay Here? Yes.

Staff Speaks English? Yes.

Comments: This hotel has a certain elegance. Go with a superior room.

Reviews for Kiev hotels were done in October and November 2005 by Ed Ryder. Room pricing should not be relied upon as accurate since rates change for various reasons including strong demand and inflation, and where rates have been provided, it is only meant to serve as a guide and all pricing should be verified with the hotel.
