Hostel Kiev ... affiliated with Hostelling International
www.hihostels.com.ua
Kiev, Ukraine Phone: +38-067-985-11-73 or +38-044-426-99-56 email: info@hihostels.com.ua Street Address: 52-A, Artema street, korpus 2 Rates: 18 euros per day. This price includes linens. There is a 1 euro discount if you are a member of Hostelling International. After 6 nights, there is also an automatic 1 euro discount. Location Rating: Very good. American embassy is within a few minutes by foot. A lot is here. Cafes, supermarket, movie theater. The metro is not too far away. An ancient monastery is in the neighborhood. The train station is about a 15 minute bus ride away. Night clubs are nearby, they say. I didn't pass any in the neighborhood. Proximity To Metro: Lukjanivskaya metro station. Ten to 15 minute walk? Lobby Appearance: Well, they are busy reconstructing the place. The ground floor lobby is a bit crappy. Take the door to your immediate right. Go up the stairs and keep pressing the elevator button until it comes. Get off on the 9th floor. That is where the hostel office is. Room Appearance: Clean. Basic. I saw beds that are not suitable for tall people. But they say all new furniture is coming. Rooms either have 2 or 3 beds and share a modern bathroom. Useful Nearby Businesses: On the 4th floor, down a dark, dark hallway is a poor-looking cafe where they do not jump to greet you. The aroma of dinner smelled good while I was there. The cafe looks so-so, but acceptable. The hostel people say you can eat cheap there, like $2 for breakfast and $3 for dinner. Just outside the building is the "Maestro" bar/cafe. It's much nicer in appearance. They say internet cafes are close to this location and their Podil location (beautiful old section of the city). Hotel Restaurants: Other Amenities: Always an English speaker on duty. Would I Stay Here? Yes. If I wanted a hostelling experience. And I think management is motivated to provide service. Staff Speaks English? Yes. Comments: This location has 60 beds. They told me they have 3 Kiev locations. They opened this hostel July 1, 2005. I think they have a very good location, but it is hard to find. You will need to go down an alley a little ways, then turn right into a large courtyard. Your entrance will be the first building to the left, just after the Maestro bar/cafe. After 11pm, you should end the wild partying because that is quiet time. They say that the guys like the 3 bed units because they often arrive by themselves, then all become friends through being roommates, and then they all explore the city together, and sometimes travel to other parts of Ukraine. They say it is common for friendships like that to develop that way. I also visited their Podil location, which is in an older part of the city. It only has 3 rooms. An internet cafe is just steps away. Phone number: 417-31-89 Street Address: 10 B Yaroslavskaya Rates: 19 to 22 euros My feeling is that the other location is better because you have a stronger possibility of meeting more people and making more friends.
