Location Rating: Excellent.

Proximity To Metro: Very good. 10 minute walk to Gostiny Dvor/Canal Griboyedova metro stations.

Lobby Appearance: Simply gorgeous. This place is a real palace and you get an instant desire to be dressed properly to walk through its splendid and exquisitely decorated halls! I was really surprised to see that they have carpets in elevators for every day of the week - you get inside and the carpet reminds you "It’s Thursday today!"

Room Appearance: This top-class hotel offers its guests 29 rooms in four standards of splendor. The most opulent is the Presidential suite - of which there are only two apartments: the Eliseev (located in the former master bedroom) and the Taleon suite - followed by the executive (9), junior suites (8) and superior rooms (10). Each suite and room has been individually designed and decorated with high quality Italian furniture (all beds are king-size), Spanish lamps and Italian carpets, and hand-painted reproductions of masterpieces from major art museums like the Hermitage and the Russian Museum. Every suite and room features satellite and cable TV, air-conditioning, telephone, mini-bar, internet connection, safety deposit boxes, as well as such 5-star hotel services like 24-hour personal butler service and housekeeping. Bathrooms are simply amazing with their crystal water taps and huge Jacuzzis!

Useful Nearby Businesses: You can find anything on Nevsky in this area: cafes, restaurants, wine boutiques, clothes stores, fast food restaurants… but why walk anywhere if you can get anything you want in your hotel?

Hotel Restaurants: Breakfast is not included. It will cost you either $18, $25 or $29 depending upon which restaurant you choose. There are two of them: Eliseev Palace located on the 2nd floor, and Victoria on the top floor with magnificent views of the city.

Other Amenities: Business center, beauty salon, health spa center (Finnish sauna, Russian steam bath (called banya), Turkish bath, hydro massage, 12 x 5 meter swimming pool and relaxation area) fitness center (which is a fully equipped modern gym with a variety of aerobic equipment, as well as weight-lifting machines and free weights.) Also, besides two restaurants there are: numerous bars, Taleon Club casino, cigar lounge. (Dress code required.) Fitness center and spa cost $10 and $15 correspondingly. Garage parking is $50 a day. (Yow!) Or you could just park your car out on the street for free.

Would I Stay Here? Yes.

Staff Speaks English? Yes.

Comments: In January 2004 the Eliseev Palace Hotel was accepted into the Leading Small Hotels of the World association, which is a prestigious distinction.

I was totally inspected by the security and was asked to leave my camera in the cloak-room, because no pictures are allowed inside this club. Then I was asked for my ID and photographed and given a temporary pass!

I recommend everybody have a look at their website and learn the history of this unique building. The Eliseev Palace Hotel is the only lodging in St.Petersburg providing accommodations in a tsarist-era palace.
