Street Address: 1/2 Khreshchatyk Street

* Interesting and impressive little bars with a view *

Rates: Standard single from $121. Superior rooms are much better. They start at about $201 for a single, $254 for a double

Location Rating - Very good. I like this location because a park is across the street with a few amusement rides, an unusual arch, some Soviet-era statues, and quite a view of another part of the city which is down a steep bank. Also, I like the architecture surrounding this hotel.

Proximity To Metro: 10 to 15 minutes by foot.

Lobby Appearance: It has been recently updated.

Room Appearance: First I was taken to an old standard single room with an old, dated bathroom.

It featured a 20 inch TV. I was unimpressed with the fourth floor. Everything looked old. BUT THEN... I was taken to the 6th floor. Oh, it is much more attractive. And I was impressed with the design quality of the corridor on this floor. The rooms are new. The bathrooms are quite nice. There is a huge difference between the old section and the renovated section.

Useful Nearby Businesses: There is a lot of hustle and bustle here. Lots of everything is nearby.

Hotel Restaurants: They have some noteworthy eateries here. I liked the Panorama Bar on the 12th floor. And I really liked the atmosphere and views at the 4th floor Munich Bar. The Munich Bar is quite a nice little place.

Other Amenities: They have a "wellness center." It's got a sauna, massage room, a tiny gym with one universal weight machine, a couple dumbbells, and 4 or 5 cardio machines. Plus they have a small pool that might be nice for one person or a couple to step into. More than that would be a crowd. The pool area has a very private feel to it. It struck me as odd that the wellness center is free for guests, but only from 7:30am till 4pm? So I guess you have to pay up if you prefer to exercise or relax during the evening hours? And I didn't like how your arrival and departure at the wellness center seems to require that somebody unlock the door for you.

The hotel has a small business center. It cost a little more than $10 an hour to use the internet in the business center.

Would I Stay Here? Yes.

Staff Speaks English? Yes.

Comments: They have the service attitude here. And the hotel regards itself as 4 star. You will need a key card to operate the elevator in this hotel, so that is a good security measure. The 11th floor is non-smoking. Elevators are new. What I liked most about this hotel were their interesting bars. You can sit at a table and order food. The views are interesting. The interior surroundings are pleasant. I also liked being able to easily walk to the unusual park across the street, which is a short distance up and then down a hill. You won't know what is there unless you walk there. It can't be seen from the hotel.

Reviews for Kiev hotels were done in October and November 2005 by Ed Ryder. Room pricing should not be relied upon as accurate since rates change for various reasons including strong demand and inflation, and where rates have been provided, it is only meant to serve as a guide and all pricing should be verified with the hotel.
