Number: Street Address: No. 6 Southern Road Capital Gym, Haidian District, Beijing, P. R. China Location Rating: Good. Surroundings were busy but well lit at night and seemed quite safe for walking. The hotel is located near the Second Ring Road which is one of the major roads in Beijing. Major sites in Beijing require transportation no matter where you stay and since we were with a tour group, that was provided. The hotel concierge would arrange transportation if you chose to explore. The lobby in this hotel is quite striking. I do not have an exterior picture of the hotel but the lobby picture gives a good indication of the decor. Rooms are well furnished and include an in-room safe, TV, internet access, hair dryer, refrigerator, coffee maker, and a comfortable seating area. This is a Japanese owned hotel and we were surprised at how hard the beds were. Talk about extremely firm!! We slept well though once we got used to the feel of such firm mattresses. There are 720 rooms or suites. Within walking distance is the Zoo and the Exhibition Hall, a large shopping mall, plenty of smaller shops including a grocery store and a fast food shop almost directly across the street from the hotel. Five restaurants are located within the hotel. One evening we had
excellent food from a large buffet in the Bamboo Garden Cafe and then enjoyed an
"American" dinner another evening. Breakfast was a large buffet of both Chinese
and American dishes.
The hotel also has several gift shops, a business center, banquet facilities, and a health and recreation center including a gym, indoor swimming pool, bowling, billiards, table tennis, mahjong, sauna and jacuzzi plus a disco and karaoke lounge. A currency exchange counter is available in the lobby area and is open fairly late in the evening. The staff all speak English quite well and are very courteous and helpful. Would we stay here again? Yes, but we might choose another hotel with softer beds - otherwise everything was very nice and we did sleep fine...just used to less firmness!! Comments: We felt very well taken care of at this hotel. Any time we needed assistance the staff was always quite eager to help. We were with a tour group but did not feel we were treated any differently than other guests. Our overall experience here was very good. Submitted by a former guest of this hotel on March 21, 2005. |
