Street Address: 10th Sovetskaya ul. 11. Walk into the courtyard.

Rates: single $37 - $54, double $57 - $74, triple $70 - $100

Location Rating: Fair. It’s located in a very crappy and gloomy neighborhood. I wouldn’t advise going for a walk after 11 pm. The main street - Nevsky Prospect - is not very far, but it would be easier to take a taxi to the Hermitage for example than to walk there.

Proximity To Metro: Fair. 25 minute walk to Ploschad Vosstaniya metro station.

Lobby Appearance: From what I saw outside (freshly painted walls, flowers growing near the entrance) I expected something special inside but….it’s very basic. Absolutely nothing to catch your eye. The stairwell looks awful!

Room Appearance: As I understood they don’t often have foreign guests here. No wonder! All 12 rooms reminded me of a very plain soviet hotel (though some - with bright curtains and bedcovers - looked quite nice). No air-conditioning. One of the rooms smelled of cigarette smoke badly. I could barely stand it. I was very unimpressed by their bathrooms (only a few have normal shower cabins): there’s just a curtain separating the shower area from the rest of the bathroom, nothing to keep the water away from spreading everywhere! The brown tiles on the floor (like in typical soviet-time bathrooms) are simply disgusting especially with that thin coating of something white in the corners of the bathrooms. I also noticed ceilings were peeling and some were covered with black mould. Yucky!

The hotel is in the courtyard.

Useful Nearby Businesses: Dental clinic next door and a grocery store across the street. You need to walk to Suvorovsky Prospect if you need to find anything else.

Hotel Restaurants: There’s a small dining room on the 1st floor. The kitchen is very plainly equipped. You can buy tea, coffee, juice, soda, water.

Other Amenities: Anti mosquito plugs are in every room. Internet access from the reception desk is $1 per hour. You can also buy shampoo, slippers or maps at the reception. Visa registration is $25. Fax machine is available for guest use. 24-hour security. You can also use their washing machine and ironing set. Free parking is available in the courtyard.

Would I Stay Here? No.

Staff Speaks English? No.

Comments: Everything is in Russian at the Aolla. There are better places to stay in Saint Petersburg.
