St. Petersburg, Russia Phone: 7 (812) 102-4650, 7 (812) 102-4655
e-mail: sales@amaranta.ru Street Address: 8 Aleksandra Bloka ul., St. Petersburg, Russia. A 5 storied building with steep stairs and no elevators (but they’re planning to have them someday). Rates: Standard double $90, standard double renovated $115, double in section (2 rooms share one bathroom) $70, quadruple $110, extra bed $ 27. Location Rating: Poor. Half an hour walk to the city center and major sights. Proximity To Metro: Poor. If you leave the hotel, then turn to the right and walk up to the bridge, then cross it, there you’ll see a broad street - ulitsa Dekabristov - walk along it till the first cross roads and it’s there where you can catch a bus to the city center or a metro station (usually Sadovaya or Nevsky Prospect) ## 169, 22, 180, 360, 1. If you decide to walk to the metro, be prepared for at least 25-30 minute walk. Lobby Appearance: Nice and welcoming, with comfortable arm-chairs and big mirrors. Soft light and coloring of the walls make you feel warm even on the coldest winter day. It’s a surprising island of coziness and warmth in a desolate and gloomy part of the city. Room Appearance: This small and cozy hotel offers a selection of 54 fully furnished rooms. Rooms on the 5th and 4th floors belong to the ‘standard double’ category and they’re mostly for Russian tourists, rooms on floors 1,2 and 3 are meant for foreign tourists and have newer furniture and bathrooms. What I didn’t like in those "Russian" rooms were the bathrooms - instead of modern shower-cabins, they had just a curtain. And tiles in the corners on the floor were covered with a thin layer of black mould. Useful Nearby Businesses: If you follow the instructions in the "Proximity To Metro" section and reach Dekabristov street, there you’ll find a post office, numerous grocery stores, and some nice cafes (one of them is called Golden Dragon). Hotel Restaurants: There are two of them - for breakfasts (buffet table is served) and dinners - all are very clean and nicely decorated. Other Amenities: Visa registration 20 RUR, office services, visa support $40, souvenir store, conference hall, internet use is$5/hour. Laundry services. Transfers, guided tours. You can order meals into the room; the menu of the restaurant is available at the reception. Ironing sets and hair-dryers are available for free upon request at the reception desk. Would I Stay Here? Yes. But it would not be among my top choices due to the location, and I would not stay in a Russian room. Staff Speaks English? Yes. Comments: 24-hour security at the entrance with video monitoring. Smoking is not allowed. Previously was known as Hotel Piterskaya. Here is their 2002 review.
